UNIQUESEC Task 1.1: Installing Kali Linux On Mac M1 Using VMware Fusion 2023
Hello everyone,
It’s been a long time and this article is my first task for the Uniquesec.
Today I want to show you how you can install and use Kali Linux on Mac M1 using vmware fusion step by step. Let’s start.
In recent years, there was a virtualization problem for the m1 chip but now you can download and use easily.
First of all, you need to 30 gb free space for this process.
1. Let’s open the web browser and go to this site.
2. Click the ‘Download’ button.
3. After the click on download, scroll the screen and you’ll see this page. Choose the ‘Apple Silicon(ARM 24)’ after that download the image file ‘Installer’ which is recommended.
4. Now, we are downloading iso file and also we have to have own virtual machine too. Go to this link and there is an options. If you want to have FusionPro, so you can buy but I choose the VMware Fusion Player — Personal Use License one and therefore I will show you this one. If you want Pro option, please check another guides.
5. Create a user if you dont have one. I have an account and ı choose to log in.
6. Once you logged in, under the download section you will see that VMWare available for both Intel&Apple silicon. Go ahead and download the DMG file. Use the license key to activate VMWare Fusion.
7. After the download this requirements, go to downloads file, open the VMWare Fusion and double click the icon. You need to activate it in this step with the key you obtained in step 6. I cannot show you that step again because I activated it beforehand.
8. You will see this window. Please click the continue.
9. When you click continue and you’ll see this page. Choose the option which is shown in below. In addition ıf there isn’t the iso file like below, you can click use another disc or disc image file after that go to your downloads and select the iso file.
10. Choose Linux and select Debian 11.x 64-bit Arm
11. This is the summary of the virtual machine. Choose the customize settings.
12. Set your machine name and click on save.
13. After the last step, you’ll see this settings page automatically. We will do some changes on Proccessors and Memory.
14. CPU cores to 4 better performance and I’m gonna allocate 4GB ram for kali linux.
15. Select the show all and click the hard disk option.
16. I’m gonna allocate a storage space 30GB apply and start the machine.
17. Once you see this screen, use the arrow case(up-down button) for choose. Select the graphical install.
18. Set the language you want as the system language
19. Select your location.
20. Select your keyboard. I’m gonna choose the American English. Beacuse most of all tools and apps made in English.
21. I leave Kali as the hostname and click continue.
22. For the domain name, I use linux.
23. After that set up users and password.
24. Now, use the entire disk for partitioning.
25. And then select the virtual disk.
26. Select the all files in one partition which is recommended.
27. Finish partitioning and write changes to disk. You’ll see this screen please don’t misunderstanding this part. This answer comes to default as a No. Change answer to Yes.
28. Lastly, you need to choose the desktop environment. I would like to use an XFCE desktop which is faster.
29. Finish the installation and click on continue to reboot.
30. If everthing is OK, you will see the login page. Use your username and password for log in.
31. Open the terminal, and see what release we use. Write the command cat /etc/os-release As you can see, this is the latest version.
32. We can do some changes for fit to mac. Go to settings and open the Display option.
Use the native mac version and apply.
33. You have to sure this box unchecked.
